Central West vets golf report for Bathurst Monday September 21

Hi everyone,

Another big field of 114 Central West golfers enjoyed a game of veteran’s golf at the Bathurst golf course. It was a perfect day for golf, temperature of 25 degrees, a clear blue sky and not a breath of wind to be concerned about. The right recipe for good scoring and so it was, needing to play to your handicap to get a ball on the ball sweep.

The best scores of the day belong to B grade and the Ladies’ comps with scores of 40 points or more to have a chance at winning a voucher. 

The B grade winner was Mark McKinnon from Bathurst with an excellent score of 45 points. Second spot went to John Zugajev also from Bathurst with 43 points. It is a very good chance that their handicaps will take a tumble when Golflink gets the results.

The ladies comp winner was Sue Vaughan from Blayney with a score of 43 points. Not far behind Sue was Cathy Wadell from Bathurst with a score 42 points. A score that would generally win a comp but today Cathy had to settle for second.

A two-way countback was required to decide first and second place in A grade when Greg Willis from Duntryleague and Gerard O’Neill from Wentworth both returned scores of 38 points. Both had excellent starts to their games with scores in the 20’s in the front nine but Greg had the better back nine to take out the winning voucher with Gerard settling for second.

In the ball sweep, if you didn’t play to your handicap and score 36 points, you missed out on a ball. That’s how good the golf was today, and it got better in the nearest to the pin comp. Check out how close you had to get to the pin to get have a chance. On the 4th Doug Westcott 45cm, on the 8th Greg Morton, the unluckiest golfer on the course, 3cm, on the 13th David Parkes, 55cm and on the 16th Graham Lee, 2 meters. Great golfing everyone.

The next game of Central West vets golf will be at Oberon on October 12. Starting sheet will be open on our website www.cwvetsgolf.com on Tuesday September 22.

The Cowra golf club has the Cowra Vets open on Thursday October 8

The event will be a Stableford with a shotgun start at 10.00 am.
Entry fee will be $40 which includes lunch at the end of the round.
Prize money of $2,000 is on offer with prizes for 3 grades of Stableford plus best Scratch scores in each grade and nearest the pins.
