Central West vets golf report for game played at Canowindra September 14

Hi everyone,

Some housekeeping to start with.

Put this down on your diaries, the game set down for Blayney on November 2 has been changed to a week earlier that is October 26. It will also be the second round of the 2026 Ultimate Golf Challenge tournament so don’t miss out. More news about the tournament later in the week.

Back to today’s game

Once again, we had a very good field of 64 Central West vets playing a round of vets’ golf at the Canowindra golf course. As something we have become accustomed to the hospitality provided by the Canowindra golf club was second to none. We were welcome with an excellent morning tea on arrival and a very nice lunch at the end of the game. The course was in very good conditions but unfortunately the strong wind that prevail all morning made good scores hard to come by.

The best score of today’s game belong to Helen McSpadden from Canowindra who took out first place in the Ladies’ comp with an excellent score of 41 points.

In B grade the winner was Andrew Brewer from Wentworth with 37 points. A countback was required to decide second place when Allan Orton from Duntryleague and Neil Haley from Bathurst both returned cards of 36 points. The scorers gave Allan second place because of his better back nine.

In A grade the winner was Tony Beath from Canowindra on a countback from Greg Willis from Duntryleague with both scoring 35 points. Tony had the better back nine, so Greg had to settle for second place.

The ball sweep went down to 30 points. There were not nearest to the pin markers so extra balls were added to the ball sweep.
