Executive reports for 2021-22

Central West District Veteran Golf Association

President Report

The last twelve months has certainly been challenging for us Central West Vet Golfers.

Covid restrictions early on, followed by such unpredictable weather made planning and following a programme very difficult. The course redesigning and ongoing irrigation works at Wentworth has also meant more disruption and change. Bathurst Golf Club have come to our rescue often and I can’t thank them enough for their continual support of us veteran golfers.

In the next twelve months I would like to encourage members to attend as many games as possible. The smaller clubs are always very welcoming and rely on our continued support. Clubs such as Canowindra have had to cancel many games and we need to help them as much as possible.

It was pleasing to see quite a few new members this year and I hope this trend continues into 2023. Please encourage anyone who is interested in golf and is of the right vintage to come and join us for some fun and companionship.

For any club to function efficiently it must have good executives. I would like to thank Treasurer Ian, Captain David and Secretary Manuel for their constant efforts and support throughout the year. Dedication and excellent communication by Manuel are greatly appreciated by everyone, I’m sure.

I would also like to thank the many volunteers at the various clubs for their selfless help and time to ensure we chase that little white ball around their courses.

Let’s hope this coming year has fewer interruptions and we can enjoy this, sometimes frustrating, game of golf.

Stay safe and have a happy and healthy 2023.

Treasurer report

for the period October 1, 2021 to September 31, 2022.

The Financial period started with a bank balance of $8260.27 and finished with $7773.51, a reduction of $486.76

Income of $5286.54 was derived from:

Interest $ 40.04

Membership fees (209 members) $ 3135.00

Game fees $ 2111.50

We spent $5773.30 on:

Golf Event Prizes to members $ 3639.40

Stock of Golf Balls (2022-2023) $ 691.00

Bank Fees/ Morning teas & sundries $ 100.90

Printing Year 2022 Programme $ 352.00

Vets Association Affiliation Fees $ 990.00

Given the disruption to scheduled games and poor weather conditions the overall results are good. The ratio of Income to Expenses is exactly what the Vets need to continue to achieve to maintain a very stable financial base.

These results reflect the input from the President, Secretary and Captain, without which we could not enjoy the game, friendships and support for smaller clubs run by volunteers.

Secretary report for the year 2021-22

The last twelve months have proven once again that veteran golfers are a very resilient group. Just when we thought that we were over Covid and all the restriction that came with it, we have been hit with record rains that have flooded our golf courses testing our resolve to show up to Central West vet’s comp days to play our beloved game of golf.

Fortunately, as you will see from the table below, from October1, 2021 to September 30, 2022, we were able to play 23 comps throughout the Central West with the participation of 1590 vet golfers which is down on last year’s figures but understandably as Wentworth were not able to host any comps due to course maintenance and wet conditions.

Even under these circumstances we still contributed $42,820 to host clubs by way of comp fees and lunches which do not include the additional income from cart hire and bar takings.

Unfortunately, participation by lady golfers has not increased and it is still a disappointing 10% of playing numbers.

An innovation this year was the development of our own website where we have been able to provide you with competition results and up to date news and information.

We also experienced some problems with members with a Bigpond email address not being able to receive the game reports but thankfully, we were able to quickly solve the problem by accessing the services of “mailchimp” free of charge as our email service provider.

In concluding, I would like to acknowledge John Cowell, David Agst, Ian Kind and all other club delegates for the work they put in throughout to ensure that all Central West veteran golfers can enjoy our wonderful game of vet’s golf on Mondays

Also, a big thank you to all Club Managers, Board members and course, bar, catering and proshop staff of participating host clubs for the wonderful support they have given us throughout 2021-22, it has been very much appreciated.

Good golfing everyone and may the Gods of Golf be kind to you.
