Central West vets golf report for game at Oberon, April 8

Hi everyone,

The Central West vets’ members are very lucky to play on some of the best country golf courses in New South Wales and today was not exception.

The Oberon golf course was in excellent ++ condition. The fairways were well covered with grass but still providing a very good amount of run and the greens were also in excellent condition. The work around the greens is also worth a mention, the second cut around the greens slow the ball down and the higher grass on the third cut prevented the ball from running off the green.

Green keeping staff and the working volunteers must be congratulated for the way they are keeping the course.

A very good lunch culminated a very good vets’ golf day.

On to the results.

Dick Northey used all his local knowledge to come out the winner in A grade with 39 points, which was the best score of the day. Bragging rights for second place went to Alan Renike when he relegated his good mate, may be not after today, David Agst to third place on a countback when they both returned cards of 36 points.

Another local Identity Hugh O’Neill took out first place in B grade with 38 points. Second place went to Bill Wilcox on a countback from Hans Jeuken when they both had scores of 35 points.

The Ladies’ comp winner was Robyn Slattery from Oberon with 31 points.

The field on the day was a very respectable 60 players. The ball sweep went down to 30 points on a countback and the nearest to the pin winners were David Gates on the 7th, Darrell Bourke on the 9th and Peter Laffey on the 11th.
