Canowindra scorers relaxing after a job well done.

Central West Vets report for game played at Canowindra, February 19.

Hi everyone,

A very good field of 68 Central West vets’ golfers braved the weather predictions and played a round of vets’ golf at Canowindra golf club under a beautiful blue sky with no sign of rain anywhere. It was a beautiful morning for a game of golf.

As it is always the case, we were very cordially welcome by Canowindra’s group of volunteers with a very nice morning tea and a barbecue and salad lunch after the game.

The course was in very good condition with a very good covering of grass on the fairways, may be a little too long. The greens were of good pace and true to line. A real credit to the work of volunteer green keeper Doug Flannery.

To results,

Canowindra golf course has always being a challenge to veteran golfers and today was not exception with no one in the field able to play to the handicap. However, some manage the course better than others and none better than Dan Crossman, from Duntry, with 35 points, the best score of the day, to win B grade. Second was Ray Williamson also from Duntry with 34 points.

The A grade winner Noel Wright from Wenty with 33 points and second place was decided on a countback when David Parkes and Richard Lesh both returned cards of 31 points. The cards checkers gave David second place by the nearest of margins.

The ladies comp winner was Robyn Sharp-O’Neil with a very commendable score of 29 points.

The ball sweep went down to 27 points. There were not nearest to the pin available.
