Bill Lambert, front left, celebrating his big win in A grade at Bathurst

Central West Vets game played at Bathurst Monday, April 3

Hi everyone,

A big field of 130 veteran golfers, our biggest field for the year, gathered at the Bathurst golf course for a round of Central West vets’ golf. It was a perfect Autumn weather day of beautiful sunshine and not a breath of wind. A great day for golf that was reflected on the scoring, having to play well above your handicap for a chance to win a voucher.

Golf results

A countback was required to decide the winner in A grade when Geoff Arrow, Bill Lambert and Rod Smith returned scores of 38 points. Bill Lambert played the most consistent golf of the three with scores 19 points in each nine to win first place. Rod Smith starting strongly but he had to settle for second place with 18 points on the back nine. Geoff Arrow had the best scores on the first nine with 21 points, but he run out of puff on the back nine with only 17 points. He must have got tired after the big effort he put in the club championships over the weekend.

No problems with countbacks in B grade when Fred Gander was declared the winner with an excellent score of 42 points, it was the best score of the day of any grade. Second was Peter Gray with 40 points. Peter started brilliantly with 23 points on the first nine but he faltered on the back nine with only 17 points.

The ladies’ comp winner was Sue Vaughan with a very good score of 40 points. Sue had a very good first nine of 23 points but couldn’t capitalise on the good start on the back nine.

The ball sweep went down to 31 points and the nearest to the pin winners were Anne Field on the 4th, Noel Wright on the 8th, David Phillips on the 13th and Peter Chaffey on the 16th.
